Belgrade Totally Exceeded our Expectations About Vegan Food Options in the City! Find out About the Best 10 Restaurants

Belgrade is the capital of Serbia and one of the oldest cities in Europe. Belgrade lies at the confluence of two large rivers Sava and Danube. The city has many museums and monuments. In the city centre there are quite a few vegan restaurants!

WHAT TO SEE IN BELGRADE?

One of the top attractions in Belgrade is The Belgrade Fortress. The fortress was destroyed and rebuilt over and over for 16 centuries, but today still stands as the symbol of Belgrade.

The view of the city from the fortress is breathtaking. You will see two beautiful rivers Danube and Sava and the beautiful nature and city around them.

When visiting The Belgrade Fortress, you will walk through Kalamegdan Park where locals walk their dogs and spend time in nature. There are also many cute squirrels running around the park.

When visiting Belgrade, you have to take a stroll on Knez Mihailova Street. It is the main pedestrian street in Belgrade. There are many shops, restaurants, and coffee shops. It is also the busiest part of the city.

Our favourite part of Belgrade was also visiting the Temple of Saint Sava. It is a Serbian Orthodox church. The outside of the church looks very majestic but when you come inside it is impressive. Full of details and beautiful art.

If you are a party person you cannot miss Splavovi. For some tourists, this is the main reason for visiting Belgrade.

There are barges and boats permanently moored on the Danube and Sava rivers. They are floating restaurants, bars, or nightclubs. Everyone can find something for themselves, especially in the summer.

There is also a Nikola Tesla Museum but Google reviews did not convince us to visit it. The museum presents the life and work of the great physicist, inventor, and electrical engineer Nikola Tesla.

For a hotel in a great location, I recommend Envoy Hotel. You can check the availability here

BIO-VITA VEGAN KIOSK

This is a little vegan shop selling sandwiches, wraps, and a few other takeaway dishes. The place is tiny, but they really have great wraps. The location is right beside Knez Mihailova street. We tried gyros wrap and lentil croquettes wrap.

It is not a vegan restaurant but we had a lovely dinner there with our friends. It is one of the best-rated restaurants in Belgrade so a table reservation is a must.

They do not have a vegan menu but if you ask them about vegan options they will help you. We had delicious gnocchi with vegetable sauce.

VEGAN COFFE SHOP IN BELGRADE

I am a huge coffee lover but for me, coffee must have some vegan type of milk in it. In Belgrade, I found two great coffee shops that offer many different plant-based kinds of milk for your coffee.

KAFETERIJA MAGAZIN 1907

This was our favourite coffee shop in Belgrade. The atmosphere is unique and there are three floors and each of them has a different layout. You can order your coffee with pea, soy, or almond milk. They also have cold-pressed juices and healthy power shots.

You can also grab an oatmeal breakfast there just be sure to order it with plant-based milk and no honey and the same goes for an acai bowl. You can have a vegan burger with avocado, a wrap, and a falafel bowl for lunch.

COFFEEDREAM

There is a chain of Coffeedream coffee shops in Belgrade and all of them have plant-based milk options. You can have your coffee with soy, soy vanilla, rice, or almond milk. You can also order mixed fruit juice or a healthy ginger shot.

If you are hungry you can also order yourself a porridge bowl with fruits, you just have to make sure to order it with a vegan type of milk.

DAY TRIPS FROM BELGRADE

While we were staying in Belgrade, we went on two different day trips. Our favourite was visiting the city of Timisoara in Romania. It is just two and a half-hour drive from Belgrade. It is one of the most beautiful cities in the area.

There we also found great a vegan restaurant in the city centre that you have to check out if you decide to visit Timisoara. The restaurant is called Biofresh.

Our other daily trip from Belgrade was to the city of Novi Sad which is also a great city to spend a few hours and go on a delicious lunch. We tried a vegan restaurant called Plant Power but it was not our favourite.

You can also take the organized tour to Novi Sad with Victor Tours. Check the available options on Get Your Guide

Belgrade is a really nice city to visit. We spend three nights there including our two daily trips to Timisoara and Novi Sad. If you are only visiting Belgrade one or two nights can be enough especially if you are staying in the city centre and have everything within walking distance.

If you are travelling by car try finding a hotel with parking because in the heart of the city parking can be challenging.
