Bohol is a very vegan-friendly island in the Philippines, although it does depend a little on where you’re staying. If you’re staying on Panglao Island, where most tourists go, you will love the wide range of vegan options available.

I have listed the best hotel, my favourite plant-based restaurants in Bohol, and you will also find out which tour is the best to take.

WHERE TO STAY IN BOHOL?

I stayed at the amazing Oceanica Resort. The location is slightly outside the main tourist area, but the beautiful beach makes it well worth it.

I chose this resort mainly for the beach, and after seeing other beaches in the area, I was glad I did. It is not the cheapest option, but if you’re staying in Bohol for a short time, it is definitely worth it.

->Check the prices and availability here.

I booked the deluxe beachfront room, and it was the perfect choice. My view was of beautiful palm trees and the beach. It is also great that this part of the beach is reserved for hotel guests only, giving you all the peace and privacy you need.

The restaurant in Oceanica Resort offers some vegan options, such as Thai vegetables in coconut curry, a salad (if ordered without cheese), and fresh vegetable spring rolls.

If you’re staying for a longer time, you can rent your own motorbike to explore Bohol. As I was only there for a few nights, I got around using Grab.

THE VEGAN SHACK – BOHOL

The Vegan Shack is the best plant-based restaurant in Bohol. Their menu includes both traditional Filipino dishes and international favourites. They support local communities and farmers by sourcing fresh, sustainably grown ingredients.

You can enjoy dishes such as spaghetti, tofu katsu, tofu skewers, dumplings, Pad Thai, and much more. They also serve delicious vegan desserts!

It is one of the top spots for a plant-based breakfast in Bohol. You can choose from French toast, scrambled tofu, or pancakes.

The place is very cosy, but if you’re staying near Alona Beach, it’s not the closest option. You’ll need to book a Grab or rent a motorbike to get there.

The Vegan Shack has established a shelter dedicated to rescuing and caring for animals in Bohol.

VEDGE BOHOL – VEGAN RESTAURANT

Vedge is a fully plant-based restaurant located inside a resort on Bohol. You can visit for breakfast, lunch, or dinner.

For breakfast, you can enjoy overnight oats, granola, smoothie bowls, tofu scramble, or delicious vegan pancakes. For lunch and dinner, the menu stays the same. You can choose from a variety of pasta dishes, burgers, or traditional Filipino rice bowls.

As it was our first time in the Philippines, we decided to try some traditional dishes. We ordered Sisig, a Filipino classic, and tofu Adobo. Both are usually made with meat, but at Vedge, you will find tasty vegan versions.

You can also try Kare-Kare in a plant-based version. To finish your meal, treat yourself to chocolate mousse, mango cheesecake, or banana bread.

CRAZE CAFE, BISTRO & GELATERIA – VEGAN OPTION IN BOHOL

This café and ice cream shop offers some vegan options, though it is not a fully plant-based spot. It’s a great choice if you’re travelling with non-vegan friends.

From the breakfast menu, you can order a plant-based sandwich with a smashed chickpea and mushroom patty, served with salad. They also offer delicious smoothie bowls.

Another good option is the health box, which includes chickpeas, mushrooms, croutons, and a variety of vegetables.

For dessert, they have a few fruit sorbets such as mango and passion fruit, which are perfect for cooling down in the tropical heat. They also offer oat milk for their drinks.

SHAKA – PANGLAO BOHOL

Shaka is one of the best vegan spots in Bohol. You’ll find the same restaurant on Siargao Island. They’re famous for their delicious and Instagram-worthy smoothie bowls.

It is the perfect place for a plant-based breakfast or brunch. Alongside smoothie bowls, you can order shakshuka, pancakes, and many other tasty options.

Their lunch menu includes vegan burgers, sandwiches, and wraps. You can also try their healthy tempeh bowl. Shaka is the ideal place to enjoy iced coffee on the island.

WONDERLAND – SAYAW THAI FOOD IN BOHOL

If you love Thai food, this is a must-visit restaurant in Bohol. On their menu, you will find all the classic Thai dishes, and many of them can be made vegan. The staff clearly understand the difference between vegan and vegetarian, which is always a plus.

I had the plant-based Pad Thai and mango sticky rice. Both were excellent. The atmosphere in the restaurant is lovely, and I recommend sitting on the upper floor for a more relaxed experience.

OVERGROWN CAFE & BAR

This breakfast, brunch, and lunch café offers a few vegan options. My favourites are their vegan smoothie bowls. You can choose from peanut butter-chocolate, mango-banana, or pineapple-banana flavours.

If you prefer something savoury, try their freshly baked sourdough bread with homemade dips. Not all the dips are vegan, but the plant-based options include basil-cashew pesto, mango chutney, bell pepper pesto, and cranberry-onion.

They serve coffee and matcha lattes, both available with plant-based milk.

MELLOW – VEGAN POPSICLE IN BOHOL

I stumbled upon this spot by accident during an evening walk along Alona Beach. It’s mainly a frozen yoghurt shop, but they also offer vegan popsicles.

You can choose from cream or water-based popsicles, and they offer a good variety of fruity vegan options that are perfect for cooling down in the heat of Bohol.

THE BEST TOUR ON BOHOL ISLAND

The most famous spots to visit in Bohol are the Chocolate Hills and the Tarsier Sanctuary. If you’re staying on Panglao Island, these two sights aren’t exactly nearby. You could rent a motorbike and visit them on your own, but after watching a well-known YouTuber recommend Ecotravelers, I decided to try their tour.

This isn’t a sponsored review. I was genuinely impressed. The tour isn’t the cheapest, but it’s worth it. Booking this tour was the best decision I made. The tour is private, and you get your own driver and guide. And the best part? They take you to places in Bohol far from the usual tourist crowds.

BOHOL NATURE TOUR

If you’ve seen photos of the usual viewing spot for the Chocolate Hills, you will know it is packed with people queueing for photos. Ecotravelers took us to a quieter location where we had the whole viewpoint to ourselves.

From there, we headed to a peaceful tarsier sanctuary, where we were almost the only visitors. The calm, uncrowded setting made the whole experience so much more enjoyable.

Another highlight from this Bohol Nature Tour was the visit to the stunning Pangas Waterfalls. This spot hasn’t yet been discovered by mass tourism. Only a few locals were there, swimming with us. It was an incredible experience to discover such hidden gems.

We ate lunch on a cruise boat along the Loboc River. Our guide made sure we had a table with an amazing view. The lunch buffet even had delicious vegan options on its menu, which was a great surprise. There were also a few desserts available.

After lunch, we visited a local market. Our guide walked us through the stalls, pointing out local produce and sharing fun facts along the way. It was a lovely way to end the day of this Bohol Nature Tour.

->You can book the Bohol Nature Tour with Ecotravelers here.

Boracay is not the best island in the Philippines for being vegan. As it’s such a touristy place, I expected vegan options to be everywhere. However, there are a few exceptions that serve amazing vegan food.

The Philippines, in general, are getting more and more vegan-friendly. Sometimes you will not be able to find anything, but there are some destinations where being vegan is easy.

I would say that Boracay is becoming more vegan-friendly, but there are not as many options as you would hope, especially if you are staying for a longer period of time. We stayed for only three days, so for us, there were enough options.

WHERE TO STAY IN BORACAY?

I chose to stay at Mövenpick Resort & Spa Boracay because of the beautiful beach. After reading online, I learned that this resort is located on the best beach on the island.

Mövenpick Resort & Spa Boracay shares its beach with two other amazing resorts: Crimson Resort and Spa and Shangri-La. Mövenpick is the most affordable option of the three, which is why I chose it.

The hotel is not very vegan-friendly. There are no options for plant-based milk in your coffee anywhere in the resort. Breakfast options are also limited. There is a “healthy” table that has vegan options, but the only truly vegan option there is vegan cake. You can have some fruit, vegetables, and congee.

If I decide to come back to Boracay, I would definitely stay in one of these three resorts again, because the beach was truly amazing, the best on the island. The ocean was so beautiful, it felt like swimming in a pool.

You just need to keep in mind that these three resorts are slightly outside the main restaurant area. However, the resorts offer a free shuttle a few times a day, and tuk-tuk services are available at all times.

BEST VEGAN OPTIONS IN BORACAY

SABORIA KITCHEN & LOUNGE – BORACAY VEGAN LUNCH AND DINNER

This trendy restaurant is right on the walking promenade along the beach in Boracay. The restaurant is nicely decorated, and the view of the palm trees and the beach is amazing.

They offer a fusion of Filipino classics and international flavours. Besides Boracay, you can also find them in El Nido. They offer breakfast too, but there are no vegan options.

For a starter, you can order banana falafel or the Mediterranean trio, which includes bread, hummus, baba ghanoush, and chimichurri. There is also a taro and leek soup.

For the main course, there are a few vegan options like tofu Caesar salad, pancit bihon (these are the traditional noodles), or a mushroom rice bowl. Sadly, there are no desserts available, but there are many other great spots in the area for a vegan dessert.

MANGO MAMA – BORACAY VEGAN DESSERT

Speaking of vegan desserts, Mango Mama is my favourite spot in Boracay. I think I visited Mango Mama once a day while I was there.

It is a vegan ice-cream dessert that includes mango coco ice cream, black rice ice cream, warm suman, fresh mango, salted coconut cream, and crunchy latik. In this dessert, it is the most amazing combination of flavours that is perfect for the tropical heat.

Mango Mama dessert is very similar to the famous dessert, mango sticky rice. So, if you love mango sticky rice, this one is definitely the perfect dessert for you.

NONIE’S BORACAY

This is a health-focused restaurant in Boracay with a good selection of vegan options. They use local produce and try to be as environmentally sustainable as possible. This is the restaurant in Boracay where you will find the most vegan options.

For a starter, you can have tempeh salad, pumpkin soup, or banana heart tofu bruschetta. For the main course, you can choose from vegan chorizo balls, tempeh bowl, bao sliders, and tempeh kare-kare.

They also have an all-day brunch menu with a few delicious vegan options. You can enjoy a cold-pressed juice, too. They offer mango sticky rice for dessert, although it wasn’t my favourite, everything else I tried was very good!

COCO MAMA – BORACAY VEGAN

Coco Mama is from the same founders as Mango Mama. The dessert is also vegan and very similar to Mango Mama, but here the ice cream flavours are coconut and coco pandan. You can choose just one flavour or have both.

You can also decide whether or not to have fresh mango on top. This dessert is also amazing, but for me, Mango Mama is even better than Coco Mama.

CHILL OUT BAR & RESTAURANT

This is a restaurant that’s part of a hostel, offering burgers, sandwiches, pizzas, and Asian food. They have a separate plant-based menu where you can find fresh spring rolls, pan-fried tofu, vegetable stew, a burger, and vegan pasta.

They also have a big selection of cocktails, so it is the perfect place for dinner and a cocktail.

UBE MAMA – BORACAY VEGAN

This is another branch connected to Coco Mama and Mango Mama. I sadly didn’t get to try this one, but I definitely will when I come back because it looks amazing.

The dessert includes vegan ube ice cream with ube pudding, salted coconut cream, cornflakes, and sticky rice balls.

SEASON COFFEE

This is a very trendy coffee shop in Boracay with a beautiful view. While sipping a perfect iced cappuccino with oat milk, you can enjoy the scenery.

If you are a coffee lover, this is a spot worth checking out. They also offer matcha latte.

STARBUCKS BORACAY

Starbucks in Boracay is located right on the beach. It is the place where I always know there will be plant-based milk available for coffee.

There’s also an option for some plant-based snacks.

HOW TO GET AROUND BORACAY

How you get around Boracay mostly depends on your location on the island. If you are staying in the popular areas like Station 1 or 2, you can do everything on foot. If you decide to stay at one of the resorts that are a little bit outside that area, you can rent a motorbike or take a tuk-tuk.

Tuk-tuks are not the cheapest, but they are the most practical way to get around the island. The price for a one-way ride from Mövenpick Resort & Spa Boracay to Station 1 was 300 Philippine pesos.

To reach the island, there are a few operators that handle transfers from the airport. We had the best experience with Southwest Travel & Tours. We chose them by accident, and their service was great.

WHAT TO DO IN BORACAY

Boracay is not an island for adventure. It is an island made for relaxation. It’s the perfect destination to spend the day at the beach, and when night comes, you can head into town to stroll around, enjoy a delicious dinner, and do a bit of shopping.

But there are still a few things to do in Boracay. If you’re staying for a longer period, try a Boracay island-hopping tour. You’ll get to experience some snorkelling and visit beautiful beaches on a day trip. A meal is also included in the tour. ->This island-hopping tour on Klook is one of the best-rated in the area.

I was surprised by how easy it is to be vegan in Laos. If you visit popular cities like Vientiane, Luang Prabang, and Vang Vieng, you won’t have any trouble finding plant-based options.

I found vegan restaurants in all of these cities, but even places that are not fully vegan still offered options. If you are having second thoughts about visiting Laos as a vegan, there’s really nothing to worry about.

It may be more difficult to find vegan food in less touristy parts of Laos. I haven’t explored those areas yet, but the locals are very friendly, and I believe they would try to make something for you, even if they don’t have vegan dishes on the menu.

I spent one week in Laos and enjoyed some delicious meals at amazing restaurants. Below, I’ve put together a list of my favourite restaurants and vegan dishes to try in Laos.

BEST VEGAN RESTAURANTS IN LAOS

COCO&CO – LAOS VEGAN CAFE

Coco&Co is a modern café-restaurant in Vientiane with an amazing selection of vegan cakes and desserts. It’s probably the best place on our list for plant-based sweet treats in Laos.

Their food is a mix of Asian and Western cuisine. You can enjoy curry with rice, avocado toast, healthy vegetable bowls, pasta, fresh coffee, and juices. I had the curry with rice and a coffee. The food was very good!

Unfortunately, I was too full after my curry to try a dessert, but I’ll definitely be back next time.

LOS IN BAAN – LAOS VEGAN DATE NIGHT

Lost in Baan is such an amazing restaurant in Laos. It is situated in Luang Prabang, and it is a perfect place for a date night. They have amazing ambiance, cocktails, and their menu also offers a good selection of vegan dishes.

They make their own cashew cheese, you can have a poke bowl, and some other appetisers. There is also a main dish with tempeh, and they have a plant-based dessert! This is the restaurant that I will return to as soon as I come back to Laos.

KAPPHET VEGAN RESTAURANT IN LAOS

It is a vegan restaurant in Vang Vieng. They make fresh coconut smoothies that are amazing and worth trying. You can have fried rice, spaghetti, a burger, soup, a sandwich, fried vegetables with rice, larb, and a few other options.

The owners are really friendly, and their food is delicious. I had noodle soup with coconut, and it was amazing.

MITI RESTAURANT – LAOS VEGAN OPTIONS

It was one of my favourite restaurants in Laos. Miti Restaurant is located in Luang Prabang. Their menu is wide, and if you are staying for multiple days, you can try a few different things.

They have many plant-based options with tofu, like curries, noodles, or fried rice. But the main reason I kept returning to this restaurant was because of their vegan coconut ice cream. This was the best ice cream I had in Laos. You can also have it with fresh mango. It really is the best dessert in hot weather.

H&H VEGETARIAN FOOD AND PIZZA

It is a vegetarian restaurant in Vang Vieng that has many plant-based options. Before ordering, just check if the dish contains any animal ingredients like dairy or eggs. It is a small restaurant right on the main road.

The food is good and affordable. You can have noodles, rice, curries, stir-fried dishes, sandwiches, and so much more. If you are staying in Vang Vieng for a longer time, it is a perfect place to visit more than once, because there are so many different food options.

TWO LITTLE BIRDS CAFE

It is a vegetarian café in Laos that serves mostly vegan options. It is a very popular breakfast spot in Luang Prabang, so if you are hungry in the morning, go early.

They have plant-based smoothie bowls in different fruit combinations. If you prefer something not so sweet, you can also have toast with mushrooms or avocado. They also serve lunch, so it’s a great spot to try some traditional Lao cuisine made vegan.

LAOS VEGAN REUNION CAFE

It is a small vegan restaurant in Vientiane, the capital of Laos. The location is a little bit hidden, but once you find it, the atmosphere is friendly. They have a wide selection of vegan dishes like fried rice, salad, noodles, soups, and different appetisers. You can also find many dishes with faux meat.

We tried their noodle soup, and it was good.

LAOS VEGAN FOOD AT NIGHT MARKETS

Visiting night markets is a popular activity in Laos. These markets usually have many food stalls where you can find affordable snacks. Most stalls at night markets in Laos don’t offer vegan options, but there are some exceptions. We found a few in the Vientiane Night Food Market.

We came across a mochi stall that had some vegan mochi options, like Daifuku mochi. The mochis were amazing. You should definitely try them when you’re there!

Another option at this night market in Laos is Japanese purple sweet potato balls. If you visit Vientiane, make sure to stop by this night market and enjoy some plant-based snacks.

In Luang Prabang, there is also one food option at the city’s famous night market. This market is known for souvenirs, but there are a few things to try food-wise as well.

We found a place called Ajam Mora, right in the middle of the night market food street. It’s a very affordable spot, and you can find a few vegan options. I ordered their noodle soup, which wasn’t my favourite, so if you decide to visit, maybe try something else.

HOW TO PLAN YOUR TRAVEL ITINERARY IN LAOS

4 DAYS LUANG PRABANG

I spent one week in Laos. Ideally, if you have more time, you could even spend two weeks in Laos and visit all the hidden gems that are worth exploring. Because my time was limited, I spent 4 nights in Luang Prabang. It was the perfect amount of time to really enjoy this beautiful city. I was able to explore and also relax during those 4 days.

I stayed in a wonderful accommodation called Satri House. If you decide to spend time in Luang Prabang, definitely book this hotel.

->Check prices and availability for Satri House.

The city offers a wide range of amazing vegan food options. If you stay in Luang Prabang for a few days, you’ll be amazed by all the delicious restaurants you’ll be able to visit. If you want to learn more, check my guide on vegan restaurants in Luang Prabang.

2 DAYS VANG VIENG

After Luang Prabang, I continued my Laos journey to Vang Vieng. I spent 2 nights there — if you have the option, stay at least 3 nights. For me, the time felt a little bit too short for all the amazing things you can do there. This city does not have as many plant-based restaurants, but there are still a few where you can enjoy delicious food.

My accommodation there was also breathtaking. I stayed at Riverside Boutique Resort. It is probably the most beautiful resort in the area, with amazing views. If you want to learn more about the best vegan restaurants in Vang Vieng and what to do there, check my guide.

1 DAY VIENTIANE

For my last night in Laos, I chose to stay in Vientiane, just to be closer to the airport. There is not much to do in the city, but the night market was very nice, as I could find some food options.

There are also a few vegan restaurants you can try when visiting. If you want to learn more in detail about how to spend one week in Laos, check out my 7-day Laos itinerary.

Siargao offers amazing vegan breakfast options. This is one of the reasons I love this island in the Philippines so much. When you combine a beautiful tropical island with a good variety of vegan restaurants, you get a perfect island paradise.

I spent almost a week in Siargao, but it was definitely not enough. It is a beautiful tropical island where you can relax, surf, party, enjoy great food, and have fun. It is also a place where you will meet lots of young travellers from all over the world. Because of that, you won’t have any trouble finding somewhere to enjoy your evenings.

WHERE TO STAY IN SIARGAO?

I stayed at the most amazing villa at Kaimana Resort Siargao. The resort is small and offers a choice between private rooms and villas. As I was staying for a longer period, I decided to book a private villa, and it was the best decision ever. The villa was private, clean, and luxurious.

There is also a large pool and a beautiful garden, the perfect combination for a relaxing swim after a long day. You can rent a motorbike through the accommodation, which makes everything efficient and hassle-free.

Kaimana Resort in Siargao doesn’t offer breakfast, but there are so many fantastic vegan cafés and restaurants nearby that you really don’t need to eat at your accommodation.

->Check availability for this beautiful resort here!

VEGAN BREAKFAST IN SIARGAO

Compared to other islands in the Philippines, I feel that Siargao has far more vegan and healthy restaurants. You can enjoy traditional Filipino food made vegan or go for Western options.

Most restaurants offering vegan breakfast in Siargao serve smoothie bowls. If you like sweet and fruity breakfasts, this is perfect for you. There are so many plant-based smoothie bowl options that choosing the best one can be difficult. But it is the most refreshing vegan breakfast you can find in the tropical heat.

Some restaurants in Siargao also serve savoury breakfast options, such as toast loaded with different toppings. Most cafés and restaurants offer oat, soy, or coconut milk for coffee, which is great news for all the coffee lovers out there.

Here are my favourite vegan breakfast spots in Siargao:

THE SOUL SHACK VEGAN BREAKFAST IN SIARGAO

This was our most memorable vegan breakfast spot in Siargao. The place has a spiritual feel with relaxed boho vibes. You can enjoy your food on the upper floor, sitting on cushions and looking out at the lush greenery.

They serve amazing smoothie bowls, smoothies, cacao potions, and my favourite breakfast there: papaya filled with coconut yoghurt. I’m still dreaming about that papaya now that I’m no longer in Siargao.

VEDYA SIARGAO VEGAN BREAKFAST

This vegan breakfast spot is right next to The Soul Shack. If you are staying nearby or have a motorbike, it is easy to reach both.

They offer toast with various toppings, such as macadamia banana brûlée for something sweet, or a range of savoury options like mushroom toast, hummus, pesto, or falafel. For a sweet plant-based breakfast, you can also choose a smoothie bowl, pancakes, or a yoghurt parfait.

Their entire menu is vegan, although some drinks may include dairy or honey. Their coffee is also really good.

SANABOWL SUPERFOOD CAFE

This is a small breakfast spot in Siargao that offers smoothie bowls and healthy toasts. The restaurant is not fully vegan, but there are some great vegan options.

Sanabowl is very popular, so be prepared for crowds. Their smoothie bowls are excellent, and you can even add vegan protein powder. You can choose from flavours like açaí, Mangolicious, creamy coconut, and cocoa banana. Their iced oat milk cappuccino is a must-try!

SHAKA SIARGAO VEGAN BREAKFAST

Shaka is located in the perfect spot, right next to the famous surf break at Cloud 9. This popular vegan restaurant is best visited early in the morning. You can watch the surfers while enjoying your breakfast.

They have a wide range of delicious breakfast options including smoothie bowls, bliss cups made with chia pudding, and if you prefer a savoury breakfast, you can go for a veggie sandwich, wrap, or other tasty plant-based dishes.

VER DE SIARGAO BREAKFAST

This is a vegan restaurant you absolutely must visit in Siargao. They have amazing breakfast options. If you prefer savoury breakfasts, you can choose between a chickpea omelette or tofu scramble.

For something sweet, they offer whole grain pancakes, gluten-free waffles, or smoothie bowls. Their coffee and smoothies are also worth a try.

SAINT THOMAS COFFEE

This is a beautiful coffee shop that’s worth visiting just for the vibes, especially if you are a coffee lover like me. I am not sure if they offer any vegan breakfast options, but they do serve an excellent iced oat milk cappuccino.

SHANTI SHANTY CAFE SIARGAO

This breakfast spot and bakery is known for its amazing sourdough. It is not fully vegan, but you can still find some options. Their overnight oats are great, and you can also have bread with nut butter or a veggie sandwich—just ask them to leave out the cheese.

HAPINESS RESTAURANT SIARGAO

This restaurant is not vegan, but you can find one good option. For breakfast, they offer vegan banana oatmeal pancakes with coconut sauce. Their coffee with oat milk is also worth trying.

GREEN VAWES CAFÉ BREAKFAST

If you’ve run out of places to try and want a vegan smoothie bowl, this café is a good choice.

HOW TO GET AROUND SIARGAO?

There are a few ways to get around Siargao. The easiest is to rent a motorbike. We rented one through our accommodation, Kaimana Resort, but there are plenty of motorbike rentals available around the island.

->You can also rent a motorbike before arriving on the island here!

If your accommodation in Siargao is in a good location, somewhere near General Luna, you will be able to walk to most bars and vegan restaurants. So, if you are not comfortable riding a motorbike, walking is your best option.

There are also a lot of tuk-tuk drivers on the island, but I am not sure how expensive they can be.

HOW TO GET FROM THE SAYAK AIRPORT TO GENERAL LUNA?

Getting from Sayak Airport to General Luna is very easy. As soon as you collect your luggage and exit the airport building, you will find shared shuttle vans waiting to take you to your accommodation for a fixed price.

To get back to the airport, ask your accommodation to book a ride for you. You can also book your shuttle in advance through Klook. That way, you will have a guaranteed seat and less stress, leaving more time to enjoy the sunshine in your bikini!

Luang Prabang is one of the most charming cities, and finding restaurants with vegan options is easy. We thought eating vegan in Laos would be difficult, but it was surprisingly simple.

We stayed in Luang Prabang for five days, which was the perfect amount of time. It allowed us to explore everything the area has to offer while also having time to relax. We were never hungry and were amazed by the variety of vegan options available in Luang Prabang.

WHERE TO STAY IN LUANG PRABANG

SATRI HOUSE HOTEL

We stayed at the most incredible place in Luang Prabang called Satri House Hotel. It is a colonial-style accommodation with beautiful, lush gardens. The atmosphere in this resort is just amazing. There are a few different buildings, each offering different types of rooms.

The pool is set among these dreamy gardens, and it feels like a little oasis where you can relax after a long day of exploring. The rooms at Satri House Hotel are decorated with old-world charm. They are spacious and come with a large terrace.

However, the breakfast is not very vegan-friendly. They offer only a few à la carte dishes, but if you ask in advance, they might be able to prepare something vegan for you. Fortunately, with plenty of vegan restaurants around Luang Prabang, this wasn’t a problem for us.

I also tried their spa, and the massage took place in a beautifully peaceful setting with a skilled masseuse. It is not the most affordable spa in the area, but the quality is excellent.

->Check the availability of this beautiful hotel here.

BEST VEGAN RESTAURANTS IN LUANG PRABANG

Luang Prabang has a good selection of restaurants with plant-based options. Some are expensive, while others are very affordable. Food prices in restaurants are generally higher than in some neighbouring countries, mainly because most places cater only to tourists.

MANDA DE LAOS – RESTAURANT IN LUANG PRABANG WITH VEGAN OPTIONS

This is probably the most beautiful restaurant we have ever visited. It is very popular, so you need to make a reservation a few weeks in advance. Every table in the restaurant has a stunning view of the lily pond.

Manda de Laos offers Laotian family cuisine. It is not a vegan or vegetarian restaurant, but they have a few delicious plant-based options on the menu.

They offer vegetarian stew, Lao-style mushroom salad, watercress & tofu clear soup, laap, and mango sticky rice. Their homemade ice cream is also vegan!

The staff are very friendly and attentive. You can ask them about any dish and the possibility of making it plant-based.

MITI RESTAURANT – OUR FAVOURITE SPOT FOR VEGAN OPTIONS IN LUANG PRABANG

Miti Restaurant quickly became our favourite place to eat in Luang Prabang. The main reason? Their incredible coconut ice cream with mango. You have to try it when visiting the city!

They also offer a wide vegetarian menu with plenty of amazing vegan options. You can enjoy dishes like curry with tofu, vegetable noodle soup, fried tofu with basil, fried rice, and much more.

LOST IN BAAN – ASIAN FUSION – RESTAURANT & BAR

We chose this restaurant for our dinner date in Luang Prabang, and it was the best decision ever. The atmosphere is amazing. The place is stylish and modern. They have an impressive cocktail menu as well as a great food selection.

We tried a few of their plant-based dishes, and our favourites were the Carrot Lox, a vegan version of smoked salmon made from carrot with cashew cream cheese, and Mapo Tofummus, a creative dish with tempeh and shiitake mushrooms.

Their menu also includes poke bowls, vegan cheese balls, tempeh, and non-dairy banana ice cream for dessert. It’s not the cheapest place, but with such an innovative menu, it’s totally worth it.

TWO LITTLE BIRDS CAFE – VEGAN RESTAURANT IN LUANG PRABANG

This is a very popular café in Luang Prabang and one of the few fully vegan restaurants in the city. They are well-known for their colourful smoothie bowls.

For breakfast, we shared a smoothie bowl and mushroom toast. It is one of the best breakfast spots for vegans in Luang Prabang. You can also try a few traditional Lao dishes made vegan.

BAMBOO GARDEN RESTAURANT

Bamboo Garden is a family-run restaurant in Luang Prabang. Their menu includes a mix of Lao and Asian fusion dishes, such as larb, fried rice, noodles, and curries. The restaurant serves both meat and plant-based dishes.

The staff understand what vegan means and are very helpful with orders. The portions are big, and the food is delicious!

GRASSHOPPER CAFÉ – VEGAN OPTIONS

This trendy café and yoga studio is located right in the centre of Luang Prabang. We stopped by for breakfast and decided to try their vegan smoothie bowls and coffee.

You can also have toast with avocado and tofu or a healthy bowl with tempeh for breakfast.

SAFFRON COFFEE

This was my favourite place for an afternoon coffee in Luang Prabang. They offer vegan milk options, and I loved my iced coffee with coconut milk, especially with the beautiful view of the Mekong River.

The café has a terrace overlooking the river, just across the street. It was the perfect spot to relax with a good coffee and take in the amazing views. The river is never boring, there are always boats going up and down the stream.

AJAM MORA – NIGHT MARKET STREET FOOD

In the midst of the chaos at the night market street, you will find Ajam Mora. It is a small restaurant that is very affordable and popular with backpackers.

They offer a few vegan dishes. We tried their noodle soup, but it was not our favourite. Maybe we should have ordered something else. Still, it is a good option while exploring the vibrant night market of Luang Prabang.

CAFE AMAZON – VEGAN-FRIENDLY COFFEE IN LUANG PRABANG

If you are a coffee lover like me, you can get a delicious iced coffee with vegan milk at Cafe Amazon. You can also find this café at the airport.

WHAT TO DO IN LUANG PRABANG

One of our best memories from Luang Prabang was visiting the Living Land Rice Farming Experience. This half-day activity teaches you all about the importance of rice in Lao culture. You get to participate in every step of the rice farming process, and at the end, you can try different rice products that are all vegan!

The most famous attraction near Luang Prabang is Kuang Si Waterfall. It is best to visit early in the morning to avoid the crowds. The waterfall is stunning, and if you are up for a hike, there is a treehouse café at the top with beautiful views—but be prepared to get very sweaty!

When in Luang Prabang, you must take a morning walk by the river. Go as early as possible while the city is still half asleep. You will see locals opening their businesses, monks walking through the streets, and far less traffic than later in the day.

Vang Vieng is a perfect destination for vegan travellers. We could not believe how many good vegan options are available in this beautiful part of Laos. Read our guide to learn about the best restaurants in the area.

This place was on our bucket list for a long time and did not disappoint. The natural beauty of Vang Vieng is just as breathtaking as it looks in the photos. The locals are incredibly friendly, and the whole area has such a welcoming vibe. We had an amazing time exploring it all. If you are visiting Laos, Vang Vieng is an absolute must-see!

WHERE TO STAY IN VANG VIENG

We stayed at the most perfect place, the Riverside Boutique Resort. We chose this hotel because of the stunning views advertised, and they were even more impressive in person. The rooms are spacious and clean. The highlight of this resort is its beautiful gardens and pool area.

The resort is located next to the river and the famous Namsong Bridge.

The pool at Riverside Boutique Resort is the perfect spot to relax and soak up the breathtaking views after an adventurous day exploring Vang Vieng.

The hotel breakfast is also good, with a few vegan options available. You can enjoy fresh fruits and vegetables, as well as vegan milk for cereal and coffee. Plus, the view from the breakfast restaurant is just as stunning as the rest of the resort.

This resort is often fully booked, so it is best to make a reservation early. ->Check availability here.

VEGAN FOOD IN VANG VIENG

Vang Vieng is more vegan-friendly than you might expect. Vegan restaurants are popular here, thanks to the many backpackers and travellers from around the world. We have put together a list of our favourite vegan dining spots in Vang Vieng.

KAPPHET VEGAN RESTAURANT

Kapphet is a vegan restaurant and guesthouse in Vang Vieng. We went there for dinner, and the owners were incredibly friendly. Both of us decided to try their noodle soup with coconut, and it was amazing.

You can also order sandwiches, burgers, and other dishes with rice or noodles. You must try their coconut smoothie, which is creamy and refreshing! Everything on the menu is fully vegan, so you do not have to worry about a thing.

H&H – VEGAN FOOD OPTIONS IN VANG VIENG

The second restaurant on our list is called H&H. It is a small vegan restaurant by the main road in Vang Vieng. You will have no problem finding it. Their menu has so many options that it was hard for us to choose what to eat. You can order vegan noodles, curries, soups, sandwiches, burgers, and so much more.

The prices are affordable, and the food is very good. We tried their noodles and a sandwich. Both were simple but delicious.

HAPPY MANGO THAI RESTAURANT

It is a Thai restaurant in the lively centre of Vang Vieng. They offer all the famous dishes from Thailand. It is a very popular place so be prepared to wait a little for a table as it can get quite busy.

Their menu is very clear on which food can be made vegan, with a vegan sticker next to the name of the dish. You just need to let staff know that you do not eat eggs and other animal products.
The best dishes for us were panang curry with tofu and vegetables and, of course, our all-time favourite, mango sticky rice.

VEGGIE’S VEGAN RESTAURANT

Veggie’s is a fully vegan restaurant in Vang Vieng. They serve a variety of dishes, including fried rice, curries, spring rolls, noodles, and soups. You can also order vegan sandwiches.

We were in a rush to catch the train, so we grabbed a sandwich to go. It was tasty and turned out to be the perfect snack for our train ride.

VEGAN STREET FOOD IN VANG VIENG

In Vang Vieng, you will find several street food vendors selling sandwiches. Many of them offer sandwiches with tofu, and you can simply ask them to leave out the egg and mayonnaise. The vendors are very friendly and happy to prepare your sandwich just the way you like it.

You can create your own vegan sandwich using vegetables, avocado, and tofu—simple yet delicious!

HOW TO GET TO VANG VIENG?

There are no direct flights or airports in the area The best way to reach Vang Vieng is by taking the Laos speed train. You can start your journey from either Vientiane or Luang Prabang, and the train ride takes about one hour from both cities. It’s a good idea to buy your train tickets in advance.

We researched before purchasing our tickets and chose an agency called Laos Train Tickets. They delivered our tickets on time, so we found them to be reliable. You can book your tickets here.

Alternatively, you can travel by minivan, but it takes much longer. Once you arrive in Vang Vieng, we recommend renting a motorbike to give yourself the freedom to explore the area at your own pace.

WHAT TO DO IN VANG VIENG?

Vang Vieng is a top adventure destination in Laos, but don’t worry if adrenaline-packed activities are not your thing. You can still have an amazing time here.

Our two favourite activities during our stay were:

1. Hiking up the Nam Xay Viewpoint

It is a famous hill with a motorbike parked at the top. However, the hike can be challenging if you are not in good shape. Make sure to wear proper sneakers, and you will also need to climb in some parts.

Bring plenty of water (but do not leave your empty bottle behind, as there’s already too much trash at the top). You will also get quite sweaty, so it is a good idea to carry a change of clothes.

2. Visiting Blue Lagoon 3

After the hike, we headed to Blue Lagoon 3 to cool off. The water is cold and refreshing, and you can dive in using the rope swing, which was so much fun! This is the best lagoon to visit in Vang Vieng. There is also a restaurant on-site, but we did not have the chance to check if there are any vegan options.

If you are looking for more adventurous activities, like paragliding, visiting caves, or zip lining, you have plenty of options. One of the most popular things to do is to go on a hot air balloon ride.

We only stayed in Vang Vieng for 2 nights, because we did not have more time. if you have the option, staying at least three nights is ideal to fully experience everything this area has to offer.

Sintra is small, but because it is very touristy, you can find a few vegan options in the area. From fully vegan restaurants to some options in non-vegan restaurants. We even found an ice cream shop offering vegan flavours.

Sintra is nestled in lush green hills and stands as a true testament to the beauty and rich history of Portugal. It is located just a short drive away from Lisbon.

In Sintra, you can find fairy-tale castles and pristine forests. The city offers a unique and unforgettable experience that will take you to a world of wonder and magic.

In the 19th century, Sintra became the first centre of European Romantic architecture. It is no wonder that it was declared a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1995. The city is an exceptional mixture of nature and architecture.

Sintra’s historic center is a maze of cobbled streets, lined with charming shops, cafes, and traditional Portuguese houses.

WHERE TO STAY IN SINTRA

We made the best decision and did not take Sintra as a day trip, but spent the night there. The city is full of charm, and we loved spending one night there.

We stayed at the cutest place called Hotel Nova Sintra. It is in a great location within walking distance of everything, and they offer a free parking space, which was a bonus for us. You can check the availability here.

VEGAN RESTAURANTS IN SINTRA

While Sintra may not have as many vegan restaurants as larger cities like Lisbon or Porto, you can still find several options that cater to plant-based eaters.

INCOMUM

They serve creative and flavourful dishes made with fresh, locally sourced ingredients. The menu changes regularly to incorporate seasonal produce.

It is a very nice restaurant that offers two vegan dishes. You can have a sweet potato with vegetables and spinach or penne pasta with avocado and coconut.

It was our favourite meal in Sintra because the taste of the food was amazing.

A PRAÇA VEGAN AND VEGETARIAN RESTAURANT

It is a vegetarian restaurant in the city centre of Sintra offering vegan options. Their food is fresh and simple and very delicious.

They have a daily menu that you can have in a vegan version. You can have a whole lunch that includes soup, the main dish, and dessert.

PURO SABOR SINTRA

We found an ice cream shop in Sintra called Puro Sabor that sells vegan ice cream. It was not the best ice cream that we ever had but it is great to have an option!

MELA CANELA VEGAN RESTAURANT

It is a vegan restaurant located just outside the city centre of Sintra. They offer a variety of daily specials and very tasty desserts.

TASCA – BOUTIQUE DAS TAPAS IN SINTRA

It is a small tapas restaurant with the friendliest owner. They have one vegan dish which is a vegan wrap. Our favourite part about the restaurant was the Sangria.

CAFÉ SAUDADE SINTRA

It is a cute café in the centre of Sintra. It is a great place to have breakfast. They have two vegan options which are vegan toast or salad with chickpea mash.

Additionally, keep in mind that many non-vegan restaurants may also offer vegan options on their menus. It is always a good idea to inquire about these options when dining out.

Whether you are a history enthusiast, a nature lover, or simply seeking a fairytale escape, Sintra offers something for everyone. Its magical landscapes, architectural wonders, and mystical ambiance make it a destination unlike any other.

HOW TO GET AROUND SINTRA

Most visitors visit Sintra from Lisbon by train. You can also go there by car, but parking might be a problem. When you get to the train station or park your car, you can visit all the sights on foot. Just wear your best sneakers, and you’re good to go.

->For renting a car, we recommend Discover Cars for the best deals.

Some places are up the hill, like Pena Palace, so it would be quite a hike to go up there. There are tuk-tuk taxis available everywhere in Sintra.

If you are visiting from Lisbon, you can also check out the best organised tour by Tugatrips.

NATIONAL PALACE OF PENA

One of the most iconic landmarks in Sintra is the Pena Palace. Perched atop a hill, this colourful palace is a masterpiece of Romantic architecture. Its vibrant colours and details make it look like straight out of a fairy tale.

From the moment you set foot on the palace grounds, you are transported to a world of fantasy and imagination. The panoramic views from the Pena Palace are simply breathtaking, offering a sweeping view of the surrounding countryside.

The best way to see the Pena Palace is to go up from the city centre by tuk-tuk and walk all the way down through Pena Park.

THE PENA PARK

It is a vast forested area that surrounds the Pena Palace. We loved the park even more than the palace. The park is like walking in a fairytale, full of secret paths, pavilions, ponds, and beautiful trees.

QUINTA DA REGALEIRA

Another architectural gem in Sintra is Quinta da Regaleira. This villa is a fusion of eccentric, neo-Gothic architecture. But the main attractions are its gardens and the Initiation Well. It spirals deep into the ground.

It is one of the most popular sights for the majority of tourists, so the waiting line to see the Initiation Well can be quite long, but, in our opinion, it is worth the wait.

Designed with esoteric symbolism, the Quinta da Regaleira invites visitors to explore its enchanting grounds and uncover its hidden secrets.

MOORISH CASTLE IN SINTRA

For history buffs, the Moorish Castle is a fascinating site to explore because it was built in the 8th and 9th centuries.

The castle’s ruins offer glimpses into its storied past, and the climb to the top rewards visitors with panoramic views of the city and the Atlantic Ocean.

MONSERRATE PALACE

It is a Palace that most tourists skip when visiting Sintra. It is a 19th-century villa that is a fusion of Arabic styles, surrounded by beautiful gardens.

Many local restaurants and street food stalls in Chiang Mai offer delicious and affordable vegan options. You will find a great selection of dishes made with fresh vegetables, tofu, tempeh, and various plant-based proteins.

Chiang Mai is a charming city nestled in northern Thailand. The city is known for its rich cultural heritage and warm hospitality. Chiang Mai offers you a blend of traditional and modern experiences.

The Old City of Chiang Mai is full of narrow streets filled with temples, traditional houses, and vibrant markets. You can stroll around the old town on foot or hop on a bicycle to discover hidden gems at your own pace.

WHERE TO STAY IN CHIANG MAI?

The city has many excellent hotels, but our top favourite choice is Aksara Heritage. The rooms are luxurious, and the staff is fantastic. There is also a beautiful pool. It is a true oasis right in the Old City.

VEGAN FOOD IN CHIANG MAI

Chiang Mai is a wonderful place if you are a vegan foodie. The city offers a vibrant vegan food scene with many amazing restaurants.

Don’t forget to try some delicious traditional snacks like mango sticky rice and coconut ice cream!

PURE VEGAN HEAVEN

It is a vegan restaurant located between Wat Umong Suan Phutthatham and Baan Kand Wat art village, so it is in an excellent location for lunch between sightseeing.

They have a great variety of food. You can choose between poke bowls, wraps, pasta, and many others. I tried rice curry, and it was very good.

GOODSOULS KITCHEN

It is a nice vegan restaurant in the Old Town. We stopped there for breakfast, but you can also have lunch and dinner.

They have vegan pizza, burgers, wraps, and traditional Thai dishes. We tried tofu scramble and oats.

AUM VEGETARIAN RESTAURANT

It is one of my favourite choices in the city because the atmosphere and food are amazing. The prices are also very affordable and most of the things are vegan.

Their menu is wide with many different healthy dishes and juices to choose from. I had my beloved dish, Khao Soi.

REFORM VEGAN CAFÉ

It is a vegan garden restaurant and plant-based hotel in Chiang Mai. It has an amazing atmosphere, and the food is delicious. You can go there for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. They have Asian dishes as well as some of the Western favourites.

It was the first restaurant where I tried Khao Soi in Chiang Mai, and it blew my mind how something can be so delicious. From that moment on I ate Khao Soi everywhere I could find it vegan. It is a traditional Northern Thailand dish.

V SECRET VEGAN CHIANG MAI

The restaurant is in the Poen Ruedee night market. You can choose from different dishes like Pomelo salad, drunken noodles, rice noodles with cream curry, cabbage rolls, and many more.

RAD RABBIT VEGAN PIZZERIA

It is the first fully vegan Western restaurant and pizzeria in Chiang Mai. For starters, you can have cauliflower wings, sweet potato fries, garlic bread, and bruschetta.

They have various pizzas, sandwiches, and wraps. You can even build your own vegan pizza.

CHADA VEGETARIAN RESTAURANT CHIANG MAI

It is a vegetarian restaurant with many vegan options. You can choose between traditional Thai dishes like Pad Thai, Fried rice, Massaman, Green curry, and many more.

Thailand is the destination for foodies and Chiang Mai won’t leave you disappointed.

HOW TO GET TO CHIANG MAI

Usually, your trip starts at Suvarnabhumi (Bangkok) airport which has the best connections for travelling in Thailand. I recommend that you take the domestic flight to Chiang Mai right away.

Many different airlines are flying back and forth every day so you can find the one which has the best connection for your international flight arrival. Chiang Mai is also well connected with other parts of Thailand.

WHAT TO DO IN CHIANG MAI?

There is so much to do and see in Chiang Mai. If you are not a beach person, you could easily spend more than 5 nights in this area. If you have more time, you could stay in Chiang Mai for weeks.

The Elephant Rescue Park was built especially for elephants that live with them permanently. They purchase and rescue elephants from places like circuses, the logging industry, mistreatment camps, hardworking sites, and unfortunate accidents.

You have half-day tours and full-day tours. It is not the cheapest activity, but it is worth it. Here is the official website. There are many different sanctuaries for Thai elephants, but not all of them are good.

Sticky waterfalls are a little bit out of the city centre of Chiang Mai. The waterfalls are like the name says, sticky. You can walk upstream easily. This is a very unique experience you cannot skip.

MARKETS IN CHIANG MAI

The number one thing you have to do in Chiang Mai is to visit the Sunday Night Market. Thailand is known for its night markets, but this one is the best one we have ever visited. The market is every Sunday.

At this market, you will be able to find the most delicious vegan Thai food, souvenirs, and massages. There are so many tourists and locals enjoying the evening.

There are so many other markets in Chiang Mai. It is hard to choose which ones to visit. One of the best ones is Poen Ruedee Night Market. It is very touristy, but there are a lot of different food varieties and vegan options. Just a few steps away, there is also the Night Bazaar.

TEMPLES IN CHIANG MAI

There are so many different temples in and around the city. Wat Chedi Luang Buddhist temple is right in the Old Town.

One of the most fascinating temples in Chiang Mai is Wat Pha Lat, and to get there,e you can take the Monk’s trail. The trail is taking you through beautiful nature. It is around a 30-minute walk, so I recommend you go in sneakers.

DAY TRIP TO CHIANG RAI

Chiang Rai is about a 3-hour drive away. The easiest way is to rent a car for the day and go on a road trip. There are two famous temples you can visit: The Blue Temple and The White Temple. There are also organized tours provided by TripGuru; you can check availability here.

You can also drive to the Golden Triangle, but it is a lot of extra driving if you are visiting for only one day.

Thailand is famous for its delicious Thai food. In Chiang Mai, you can take a cooking class and learn so much about ingredients and food preparation. Most of the popular classes have the option to choose vegan recipes, but just to be sure, check before booking.

In conclusion, Chiang Mai is a paradise for vegan food lovers. The city offers a wide range of vegan options, from traditional Thai dishes to international cuisine. You will definitely not be hungry here!

Porto is famous for its rich history, charming architecture, and amazing cuisine. It is the second largest city in Portugal. There are many things to experience in Porto, from the lovely old town to the world-famous wine cellars. For us, the city is very unique and worth visiting.

Many vegan restaurants and traditional eateries are offering vegan options. Locals and visitors can find delicious plant-based dining experiences in Porto.

Our travel guide will help you find all the best parts of Porto and its vegan cuisine.

WHERE TO STAY IN PORTO

It also has a private parking garage, which was a big plus for us. Because of the hotel’s central location, everything in the city is within walking distance, so you do not need to use public transport.

One of the best-rated guided tours is at Cockburn’s Lodge, the largest Port cellar in the historic quarter of Vila Nova de Gaia.

Rua Santa Catarina is one of the main shopping streets where you can explore international and local brands of fashion, accessories, and souvenirs. In the area is also a historic market called Mercado do Bolhão that opened in 1914. On the market, you can find some vegan snacks like freshly cut fruit and smoothies.

WHAT TO DO IN PORTO

The most famous monument in Porto is the Luis I Bridge. It is an iconic double-deck iron bridge. You can cross the bridge at the top or the bottom. We did it both ways, and the top part of the bridge provides stunning views of Porto, especially during sunset.

Our favourite spot for sunset watching was at the public park called Jardim do Morro just across the Luis I Bridge. The sunset was just amazing. This is one of the best things to do when visiting Porto.

Igreja do Carmo and the Chapel of Souls are significant landmarks in Porto that you must visit. And there is also the Chapel of Souls, which is famous for its extraordinary exterior covered in blue-and-white azulejo tiles.

Rua das Flores is one of the most charming streets in Porto. There are many boutiques, restaurants, and cafes. Nearby is also a historical neighbourhood called Ribeira; the main attraction there is Cais da Ribeira, which is the picturesque waterfront promenade. There are many cafes and street performers, and it is a very lively area.

One hour away from Porto, there is a city called Aveiro. This city is often referred to as the Venice of Portugal. It is known for its picturesque canals and colourful Moliceiro boats, which are very similar to Venetian gondolas.

You can explore the city’s historic centre, lined with traditional tiled buildings and charming cafés. There are also a few vegan and vegetarian restaurants like Musgo or Raiz, where you can have lunch.
