When you are walking along the Ljubljanica River or exploring the charming old town, a scoop of vegan ice cream is the perfect treat to cool down and soak in Ljubljana’s lively atmosphere.

BEST VEGAN ICE CREAM IN LJUBLJANA

We have selected our favourite vegan ice cream shops in Ljubljana. So, grab a cone, stroll through the city’s lovely streets, and enjoy the delicious plant-based flavours that Ljubljana has to offer.

Some of the options we found are fully vegan, others only provide a few plant-based flavours. All the ice creams that made our list are delicious and worth trying. Most of the shops are seasonal, so you will not be able to visit them in the winter.

1. Di Matteo Gelateria – Our Favourite Ice Cream in Ljubljana

Our top pick for vegan ice cream in Ljubljana is Di Matteo Gelateria. Technically, it’s not ice cream but gelato, and it’s fantastic! With several locations in the city centre, you won’t have any trouble finding it.

Our favourite flavours are pistachio and passion fruit, but the currant flavour is also amazing. Other vegan options include lemon, blueberry, dark chocolate with orange, raspberry, and mango. They have a few locations, and in the summertime, you will have to wait in line.

2. Vigo Sorbetto – 100% Vegan Ice Cream in Ljubljana

Vigo Sorbetto offers two locations in Ljubljana’s centre, but make sure to visit the one right next to Congress Square. At this location, all of their ice cream flavours are vegan.

Our favourite ice cream flavour here is Salted Pistachio, with Coconut and Stracciatella coming in as a close second. Other tempting options include Peanut, Almond Dolce Puro, Strawberry Hibiscus, Mango Saffron, Lemon Siracusa, and Blackberry Ginger.

3. Grashka Deli Ljubljana

Grashka Deli isn’t your typical ice cream shop in Ljubljana; it’s a vegan restaurant and deli. It earns third place on our list thanks to its unique ice cream made from fermented chickpeas. We were blown away by how delicious this ice cream is!

You can choose from flavours like Raspberry, Hazelnut, Lemon, and our favourite, Vanilla with Pumpkin Seed Oil. This spot is also worth a visit for breakfast or lunch, as it’s one of the best vegan restaurants in Ljubljana.

4. Zvezda Deli Ljubljana

Located on the way from Congress Square to Prešeren Square, Zvezda Deli offers a wide selection of ice cream flavours, with a dedicated section just for vegan options.

Our top picks here are Raspberry with Chocolate and Nectarine. Other vegan ice cream options include Mango, Sacher, Strawberry, Maracuja, Cocoa Hazelnut, and Dark Chocolate. They also offer a few vegan cakes, making it a great spot for a sweet treat.

5. Gelateria Romantika – Vegan Ice Cream in Ljubljana

Gelateria Romantika, like some other spots in the city, specializes in gelato rather than ice cream. They use fresh ingredients and traditional Italian techniques, with a significantly reduced amount of sugar. It’s worth noting that this is one of the more expensive options in Ljubljana.

With two locations in the Ljubljana city centre, all their sorbetto flavours are vegan. You can usually find flavours like Mango, Coconut, Strawberry, Passion Fruit, and Dark Chocolate, along with some seasonal options.

6. Cacao Coffee Shop in Ljubljana

Cacao Coffee Shop is one of the most popular ice cream spots in Ljubljana. However, the vegan options aren’t immediately obvious, so you’ll need to ask the staff. They mentioned that most of the fruit flavours are plant-based, with occasional special flavours also available.

Their fruit selection typically includes Strawberry, Mango, Lemon, Blueberry, Raspberry, and Blackcurrant. In addition to ice cream, they also offer a variety of vegan snacks and coffee options on their menu.

7. Yauya Patisserie ice cream in Ljubljana

Yauya Patisserie isn’t a typical ice cream shop; it specializes in cakes and desserts, with a few plant-based options. During the summer, they also offer gelato, including some vegan options.

Most of the fruit flavours are plant-based, but it’s best to ask the staff for specifics. The usual vegan flavours include Mango, Peach, Lemon, and Raspberry.

WHERE TO STAY IN LJUBLJANA?

Ljubljana is a small capital, so you will not be far from the city centre even if you decide to stay in more affordable accommodation. But if you are limited on time, it is better to stay closer to the city centre.

One of the best options in Ljubljana is to stay at the Neu Residence. It is a brand-new building that offers stylish apartments and a rooftop pool with the best city views. The location is also very central.

If you prefer to stay in a hotel, there are plenty of excellent options. For those who enjoy smaller hotels, the AS Boutique Hotel is a great choice. It offers a prime central location and beautifully decorated rooms. You will have all the plant-based restaurants nearby.

If you’re looking for a larger hotel with incredible views, consider the InterContinental – though it is on the pricier side. It is the easiest option if you are arriving with a car. Not all the hotels in Ljubljana provide a parking option.
